Roche Introduces Advanced Analytical Units for cobas® pro Integrated Solutions, Boosting Laboratory Efficiency and Capacity

Monday, June 24, 2024

Roche (SIX: RO, ROG; OTCQX: RHHBY) has announced the launch of its latest analytical units, the cobas® c 703 and cobas® ISE neo, under the cobas® pro integrated solutions, now available in countries that accept the CE mark. This platform is specifically designed for high-volume laboratories, addressing significant challenges such as staffing shortages and limited space in diagnostic facilities.

Roche Diagnostics, highlighted the critical importance of accurate and timely diagnostics in healthcare delivery, particularly in light of increasing demands on laboratories to process more samples quickly and accurately.

The cobas c 703 unit has been designed to double clinical chemistry throughput on the cobas pro platform, capable of performing up to 2,000 tests per hour with 70 reagent positions. This advancement reduces the need for operator intervention, with maintenance required only once a month, thereby maximizing laboratory uptime.

Similarly, the cobas ISE neo enhances efficiency in ion selective electrode testing, conducting up to 1,800 tests per hour with automated calibration and extended use of reagents per bottle. This innovation reduces manual tasks, minimizes plastic waste, and streamlines logistical efforts compared to previous systems.

These advancements automate manual processes, thereby improving laboratory efficiency to meet the growing demands for testing while alleviating staff shortages. Launched in 2018, the cobas pro integrated solutions offer scalable modules for mid-to-high volume clinical chemistry and immunochemistry testing. They feature fast analytical units, intelligent sample routing, and short assay times, with most immunoassays completing in 18 minutes or less.

The system ensures standardized results and operation across Roche’s integrated health networks and laboratory chains, supported by cobas® AutoCal for automated calibration and cobas® SonicWash for maintaining sample integrity.

Future updates will include integration with Roche’s mass spectrometry analyzer, further enhancing clinical chemistry and immunochemistry testing capabilities.
